Description
We are excited to have award winning artist, Jody Nash, join our schedule of workshops this year. If you have wondered how she makes her beautiful coiled pine needle baskets and would like to learn how, this is the workshop for you! Students will complete a small basket using only long-leaf pine needles, synthetic sinew, cotton embroidery thread, and a ceramic center. She will cover how to obtain pine needles, how to prepare them for coiling, and how to care for your basket when complete. This small basket will provide all the necessary skills to complete larger baskets, such as, starting the coil (for a natural center or around a ceramic center), adding and finishing off the sinew, basic stitches, raising and shaping the basket, wrapping the coils with thread to add color, and finishing it. If there is time, some makers may choose to embellish their basket with beads.
All materials provided, however if you have a favorite jewelry pliers or small scissors you would prefer to use, please bring them.
$15 materials fee (paid to instructor at first session)
