Carolyn Chipman

Carolyn at Work

Carolyn says, “I began art classes in early 2006 as a stress reliever following successful treatment for breast cancer. Since then I have come to know that painting is what I was created for, and it explains my entire life. My passion is not to paint a picture but to tell a story, whether it is my story or the one that comes to your mind while looking at my art. My desire is that you feel my art as well, that my art will tug at your heart until you have to smile and that you then pass that smile on to others. Lesson learned… a life without passion is mere existence.”

Beginning her journey in art after surviving breast cancer, Carolyn Chipman has studied with many instructors in classes and workshops throughout the southeast. Her work has been recognized in numerous exhibitions in North Carolina and was juried into the 2013 Fine Arts League of Cary’s annual show.

She is a past president of the Sanford Brush & Palette Club as well as long-time Patrons Chairperson at the Club’s annual show. In addition, Carolyn has been selected as the Club’s Artist of the Year for 2020-2021.  Currently, she also serves on the Executive Board of the Lee County Arts Council.

Carolyn continues to grow in her art through her study with regional artists including Catherine Martin, Brandi Neighbors, Yvonne Sovereign, Luana Lucone Winner, J.J. Jiang, Susan Hecht, Nicole White Kennedy, Dan Nelson and Douglas Rowe. She has also studied with nationally acclaimed artists John Poon, Dawn Whitelaw, Lori Putnum, Barbara Flowers, Peggi Kroll Roberts, T.J. Cunningham and Adam Clague.
