FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ARTIST OF THE YEAR AND ART STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS – JUNE 2023
Sanford, June 1, 2023 – The Sanford Brush and Palette Club is pleased to announce the recipients of the Artist of the Year, and our two named art scholarships for local high school seniors.
Edna Perkinson is recognized as the SBPC Artist of the Year 2023 for her many contributions to the local arts community. A student of Susan Hecht, Colley Whisson, Monica Linares and more, Perkinson celebrates life through painting figures and waterscapes, inspired by her grandchildren’s adventures at the beach and flowers in her garden.
Finding other artists through the Sanford Brush and Palette Club twelve years ago deepened my appreciation for other techniques, mediums and styles, and enriched my life with new friends.
The SBPC Art Space Gallery will be open for a public viewing of Edna’s artwork on Friday, June 9 from 12-4PM and on Saturday, June 10 from 1-4PM, at the Mann Center of NC Room 211.
The SBPC is also pleased to announce this year’s art scholarship recipients. Elayna (Layney) Keesee from Southern Lee HS receives the Billie Elmore Art Scholarship and will attend NCSU to study Film. Benedita Elexia Soto from Lee County HS receives the Marge Carney Art Scholarship and will attend CCCC to study medical administration and art. These scholarships are merit-based and are awarded thanks to generous legacy support provided by Billie Elmore and Marge Carney.
